Just a Minute Devotional #10
Waging war on our spiritual battles
Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. (John 8:34–36, NIV)
Presently, I am in a battle with squirrels. I think they’re cute, but I don’t particularly appreciate how they eat the food intended for our birds.
I studied to find ways to discourage them from going to the bird feeder. I used Vaseline, cayenne pepper, and a slinky. I also used the built-in predator screech, banged on the window, and went outside to yell.
They sit there and look at me with defiance as they gorge on birdseed. Now they have invited their friends and family.
Sin is like that. It plants a tiny seed in our lives and grows and multiplies. We try many ways to rid ourselves, but nothing works. Sin has taken over and has complete control.
Where can we go for help?
1 Corinthians 15:57 tells us that we can claim victory in Jesus. He has overcome this world and can overcome any sin in our lives. 1 Corinthians 10:13 tells us that God will help us to escape temptation.
If you are in a spiritual battle, give it up to Jesus.
Prayer:
Lord, I give you my sins and ask that you take the burden they are causing. Amen.
