Did the devil lead Jesus?

The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. (Luke 4:5, NIV)

Yes, the devil did lead Jesus, as stated in Luke 4:5. The odd thing is that the devil was not leading Jesus anywhere He hadn’t been, seen, or had a hand in creating. John 1:1 tells us that Jesus was in the beginning with God and was God.

God created all things: the powers of this earth and the spiritual realm, the rulers, kingdoms of this world, dominions, seraphim, cherubim, thrones, archangels, angels, heaven and earth, and all that is in it, including the exact mountain where that old devil led Jesus.

What did the devil think he could accomplish when all things already belong to God?

We are not much different than the Devil.

We limit our comprehension of God when we do not grasp:

  • He is far above everything. (Ephesians 1:21)
  • He triumphed over death and the grave. (Colossians 2:15)
  • He is the Lord of both the living and the dead. (Romans 14:9)
  • He knows everything. (Hebrews 4:13)

Just like the devil, we think we can barter with God using things He created to get what we want. Our bargaining reveals our pride.

Do we know better than God?

The Bible says that the devil led Jesus, but in reality, the devil had no power over Him. Life is more peaceful when we humble ourselves to God, accept His verdict, and consider He knows best.

Prayer:

Dearest Father, help me always to trust you. Amen.
