Knowing or only having an inkling

I’ve said these things to you so that you will have peace in me. In the world you have distress. But be encouraged! I have conquered the world. (John 16:33, CEB)

Do we, without a doubt, know what we think we know? Do we base our ideas on how we or how others decipher the Bible for us? Do we know because our great-grandma said so?

Sunday, I heard a man say loud and clear, “Amen,” after the preacher said that some will be thrown into the everlasting lake of fire. My eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. This didn’t seem very loving to me.

How could we have even one moment of peace, much less cheer, knowing anyone would suffer this plight? Are we this callous? Do we know with absolute certainty what we think we know?

Justify these thoughts:

  • Did Jesus conquer the entire world or only a tiny bit? (John 16:33)
  • Will few knees bow to the Lord or every knee? (Romans 14:11)
  • Is Jesus the world’s Savior or only a select few? (1 John 4:14)
  • Is anything too difficult for Jesus? (Jeremiah 32:27).

God is limitless. We see through dim glass His magnificence, and the first step in wisdom is acknowledging this. Can we trust the one who holds the future and be merciful, patient, kind, and loving during this process?

Prayer:

Thank you, Father God, for any revelations you show me. Amen
