Just a Minute Devotional #26
Put on the lens of love
My brothers and sisters, when you show favoritism you deny the faithfulness of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has been resurrected in glory. (James 2:1, CEB)
As most of us know, showing favoritism, as far as love is concerned, is not a good thing. However, it happens in a family unit, a classroom, the workforce, general society, and, unfortunately, even in the church.
Each person has strengths and weaknesses, and some are more suited to a specific task than others. However, favoritism in the form of love, care, and concern can breed discrimination!
If we are to view the world through the eyes of Jesus, then we would have an impartial view of the world. Jesus met with the tax collector, a prostitute, a Samaritan woman, and non-Jewish unclean people.
His passion encompasses all mankind: past, present, and future.
Jesus’ gift of salvation, through His death on the cross and resurrection to new life, is for all. His arms stretched out for the whole world, and His resurrection allowed a victory for all mankind.
When we put labels on people and show favoritism to others, we go against what Jesus teaches us. He showed us a love that has no limits, and He asks us to do the same. If we struggle with a marginal love, our request is only a prayer away from a resolution.
The question is not, can we do this, but will we?
Prayer:
Jesus, remove my tainted spectacles and help me to put on your love lens!
