Just a Minute Devotional #34
The gift of Christmas
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. (Luke 2:11, KJV)
My husband and I are having a stripped-down Christmas — no cards, tree, presents with bows, decorations, music, or homemade goodies from the kitchen.
This melancholic Christmas is different.
Yes, it’s a stripped down Christmas and now after all these years of Christmas hubbub, I have time to reflect on the true spirit of Christmas.
I will wrap up my gifts of:
Anxiety
Fear
Anger
Pride
Unforgiveness
Pain
They are ugly gifts, but the exact kind that Jesus wants. So, I throw them at His feet in disgust. He wipes away my tears and tells me He is grateful. Grateful? They are such horrible gifts. I cannot comprehend. But then. . .
He gives me gifts in return:
Love
Peace
Strength
Forgiveness
Comfort
Joy
Even though, with melancholy, I remember Christmas of the past, I can’t complain. It’s a very good Christmas!
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. (Luke 2:14, KJV)
