Just a Minute Devotional #36
Paving the way
Then the master said to the servant, “Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.” (Luke 14:23, KJV)
Most everyone will experience street repairs at one time or another. It’s a long process from start to finish. After breaking, digging, flattening, rolling, tamping, form building, and adding reinforcement steel; finally, the concrete is then poured. The end product is nice.
John the Baptist was known as a paver of the way. His was for the ministry of Jesus. From the first sin of Adam and Eve, to the building of the Ark, from Father Abraham, to the laws of Moses, from the kings to the prophets of old, these all paved the way for salvation through Jesus Christ.
From the foundation of the world, the word of God is eternal. This is consistent with the plan from the beginning of time. (Ephesians 3:11)
Now, guess what? We are pavers also.
Our job is to pave the way for people to see the light of Christ. We are His workmen who compel people to know Christ’s love. God equips us by His calling to woo people into His kingdom.
It takes power, patience, empathy, kindness, and love.
We can do all things through the strengthening power of Jesus Christ who will work above us, through us, and in us to pave the way. The finished product will be wonderful.
Prayer:
Thank you Christ Jesus for helping us pave the way for others to come to you. Amen.
