Just a Minute Devotional #39
Even heavy storms can bring blessings
The Lord is good, a stronghold in a day of trouble; He protects those who take refuge in him, even in a rushing flood. (Nahum 1:7–8,NRSVUE)
We didn’t even consider checking the weather for our planned camping trip. We went to the beach, no less.
Stupid!
It wasn’t a hurricane, but it was as close as one can get. A tropical storm had us quite literally holding up our tent all night. And then, to top it off, my husband insisted on cooking a huge breakfast during the deluge. We held up the awning over his head.
I was mad at him and thought, this is plain stupid!
What good came from that? Nothing but laughter over our stupidity. We still laugh at that memory.
And in all our unsettling times. . .
laughter is pretty lovely.
Is this a stretch in showing the goodness of God? Perhaps! Yet, I choose to believe in a God who is our stronghold when the storms of life hit. He will hold up our tent during the torrential wind and rain. He will also turn our tears into laughter.
I have better examples of God’s goodness, but for today, I opted for a little chuckle.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, thank you for holding up my tent during the storms of life. You are a good, good Father. Amen.
