Just a Minute Devotional #47
The uninhabited house
Even if they escape destruction, Egypt will gather them, Memphis will bury them. Briars will possess their precious things of silver; thorns will be in their tents. (Hosea 9:6, CEB)
I have found old abandoned log cabins on some of my walks in the woods. Some evidence of life remains in the budding daffodils in the front yard.
I let my imagination run wild as I visualize a young family living there at one time. I see children running in the yard, a father working the field, a mother cooking a stew, and maybe even elderly grandparents sitting on the front porch.
All that remains is thorns and briar bushes, a collapsed roof, and rubble. The house is inhabitable. With a sense of sadness, I know that once there was life in this place, but now I could only see traces of a life that once was.
Hosea was a prophet who was warning the Jewish people that ruination would come if they did not turn back to God.
Times have not changed in that respect.
We turn our back and forget our first love — Christ. We find ourselves with mold growing on our soul and a deterioration of our spirit.
However, Christ never abandons us. He will lovingly remind us to turn back to Him.
Have you turned your back on Christ? Do you need a little loving upkeep of your soul? Then turn back to the one who never leaves you.
It’s much better to turn back sooner than later.
Prayer:
Forgive me Father for turning my back to you. Thank you for never abandoning me. Amen.
