See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! (1 John 3:1, NIV)

I try to write a poem of love,

To thee, my Holy Father.

I try to write and let you know,

But my words seem to falter.

That you adopt me as your own,

And as I am, give love.

You make me worthy to approach

Your heavenly throne above.

I cannot speak about my love,

Because it’s yours, not mine.

And any love that I possess,

Yours given all the time.

A love I cannot comprehend,

I cannot even measure.

You sent your precious gift for me,

And graced me with the treasure.

You took the whip, the crown of thorns.

And chose the path of pain,

And willingly laid down Your life,

And as a lamb was slain.

I humbly ask you, “Let me come,

And lay upon your altar.

My pathetic love for you

Is all I have to offer.”

Any good you find in me,

Is Jesus Christ my Savior,

So all of me I give to you

And love words for your favor.

You make me feel that my attempt,

A masterpiece of credit.

You take my gift with eyes of love,

And do not even edit.

Holy, Holy, Holy drumming,

Beating in my heart.

Holy, Holy, Holy Lord,

God, how great thou art!

Amen.
