“Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards’’ — Søren Kierkegaard

British Invasion? No one saw the Beatles coming, the friendly young men singing sweet little songs — until their work and ways swept the world.

No one, similarly, expected a slightly introverted — but always grinning — former lawyer named Nicky Gumbel (with Jewish and atheist roots) from a little Anglican church in London to impact religion. Who thought the British would somehow evangelize and excite Christianity around the world?

“Christianity is first and foremost about relationships, rather than rules,” Gumbel stresses. “It is about a Person more than a philosophy. It is about the most important relationship of all — our relationship with the God who made us.”

It wasn’t what these Alpha people say as much as the way they say it — a conversation over a great dinner shared by good people forming friendships and all learning a little from each other. All very welcoming, making you feel at home.
