Love Isn’t for the Weak
It is hardly made for the strong either
It would be impossible for me to describe the spectrum of emotions that people are often filled with when it comes to love.
Many people will describe it in different ways. Using the filter of their culture they may be attracted to love, or even simply try to avoid it. Corporate America does its best to not talk about it too much.
Yet, it is still there. Still needed.
Singing a tune about how love makes the world go around sounds like it is quite suitable, or instead, a heartbreak song written by a boy band whose lead singer just broke up with his girlfriend for the 30th time.
Love is important, love is needed, but love is also the hardest thing to steward.
We can learn about stewarding your finances, stewarding your relationships, your health, family, and so on. The hardest thing will always be stewarding your love.
Let me refrain and clarify. I don’t mean that we need to steward it in the same manner or respect that one holds back and gives from his budget. We should instead steward by giving freely and investing dearly into the people that God placed around us.
Investing meaning that what you put in will be a reflection of what you are able to get out. Many investors have assets, such as stocks or portfolios limited to risks and rewards that vary daily.
We have access to a different type of asset: one that is limitless in rewards, and the risks are stated and already paid for in advance. That asset is heaven, and the mutual fund manager is God.
The problem today is…
Not that the investment system of heaven isn’t broken, but many of us just don’t invest. Instead of investing in heaven and the things above this Earth to earn a return on investment in this Earth, we instead invest in people, mankind, and insecurities.
We invest in filling up gaps and holes that Jesus has already covered, all simply because we never trust Him with our love. We rather give our love to things that we believe on Earth and wonder why we end up losing all our savings in the end.
Almost like an investment broker, we become too careless about who and where we are going to invest in, and instead of losing all the money we were saving, we lose all the purity we were saving.
No money? Simply risk the heart we were saving—for that person.
No money? Simply risk the purpose we were saving—for that job.
No money? Simply risk the love we were saving—for that life beyond this one.
What we can do today
The most important thing is knowing what are we putting love in that we realize is draining us out of our love for God. What is a distraction, and what is a compliment to my relationship with God?
We have to look deep down instead and ask ourselves if we are able to live to love the person we are wasting our love on for the rest of our lives. If the answer is no. Then that is your answer.
Understand that love isn’t for just the weak or simple-minded, it is a war. Being strong doesn’t help because it is not a war we were designed to wage on our own.
This war is only won by the one who does not rely on their own feelings, thoughts, or emotions, but rather resides in the heart of God.
In humility, every battle is won. With pride, battles are lost.
