He is the Patron Saint of the country of Wales
St. David, also known as Dewi Sant, is the patron saint of Wales. I’m sure you’ve heard about Wales — a principality that borders England and is home to a fiercely patriotic and proud Welsh people with their distinctive language and culture.
But how much do you know about David, as the church commemorates him on his Feast Day of March 1st?
1. He was born into nobility.
St. David was born in the late 5th century, during a time of significant change in Britain. Little is known about his early life, but according to tradition, he was born in Pembrokeshire, in southwest Wales.
His father, Sant, was a prince of the region now known as Ceredigion, while his mother, Non, was a nun who is said to have been the daughter of a chieftain.
Legend has it that St. David was born during a fierce thunderstorm, and the storm cleared as soon as he was born, leading many to believe that he was a special child God had sent.
