I’ve never been into poetry. If I ever read or memorized poems, it was either for school assignments. Or to earn a gift from Santa.

When I was growing up, you had to tell a poem for Santa before you could get a Christmas gift.

Years later, when I was reading the Bible, I learned that some sections are poetic. Yet, the scholars prioritized theology over the rhyme, so poetry doesn’t sound very poetic.

Then, one beautiful morning, while scrolling through the English translations on the YouVersion Bible app, I stumbled upon something called “Scottish Metrical Paraphrases 1781.”

“What is this?” I thought and clicked to see what type of vintage translation I would find. It wasn’t a translation but a collection of hymns. All of them are based on Bible passages!

I spent hours checking how they put my favorite verses and passages. Even though they were written centuries ago, they aged well. As a non-native English speaker, I could still understand 99% of it!
