Surviving Your Miracle
When it feels overwhelming
I’m a firm believer that miracles happen. I’ve seen them. What I’ve paid less attention to is the struggle of living through your miracle.
In October 2019, I read the book Hope Heals by Katherine and Jay Wolfe. It is the story of Katherine’s tragic stroke just after her first son was born and the road to surviving her miracle.
It is the kind of book that makes you uncomfortable. It makes you question how you would survive a tragedy in your own life. It instills a bit of fear into your complacency and tests you.
Two days after finishing the book and sharing it online with my friends and family, my own faith was tested when our dog was brutally attacked during a family outing to a local apple orchard.
We prayed hard, not knowing what the future would hold. As we lived out our miracle, we were exhausted, emotionally spent, and financially strapped. Yet, the Lord allowed our furkid not only to survive but to recover fully.
I’ve been reminded each time that I’ve faced a season when I didn’t know if I’d make it through, that miracles take work. But, ultimately, they offer us space to rely on faith and trust that we will make it through.
