Draw the Line, Change the Course, and Embrace God

3 Ways to experience a peace that transcends all understanding

Guilt, shame, and fear require three decisive actions, from us, to prevent them from moving from our head to heart, from a lie to our truth, and a blessing of fellowship to a curse of isolation.

First, we must Draw the Line by communicating to God, with intention, our need for His help.

Secondly, we must Change the Course by humbling our self and invite God into our lives and decisions. Through confession with a repented heart, we openly commit to turning from a desire to walk “our way” to a knowledge of walking by His Spirit of Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-Control.

Finally, we must Embrace God by accepting the tremendous gift of His grace and reject the human desire for allowing guilt, shame, and fear to lead us.

Looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:2, ESV)

Guilt speaks “I have done something wrong,” guard your heart. When we sin (as believers) we have guilt. This guilt should however never be carried longer than it is necessary to run to God and release it to Him with confession and repentance. Draw the Line and embrace His grace, it is sufficient!

Shame screams “something is wrong with me,” this false belief that something is wrong with us does not stand a chance when you trust the truth that we are His beloved, fearfully, and wonderfully made children. There is NOT anything wrong with us. We just need to Change the Course from some of our actions, which led us away from God.

Return to the Lord your God, for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love… (Joel 2:13, ESV)

Fear lies “you can never change, it will never stop, you are never enough,” dispel this by finding strength in vulnerability, and encouragement in accountability. If fear has you, it is paralyzing. Most fear is, however, “a shadow,” “a lie,” “an attempt to minimize God and maximize the distance between you and Him.” Fight fear and Embrace God.

It is not by our might, intelligence, self-control, or power, but by His, we find victory!
