The Courageous Shepherd
How our courage leads to faith and transformation
If you really want to trust God, you need courage. Without a firm heart, we become soft and threaten to fall away from the faith as soon as we face real challenges.
There is hardly another person in the Bible who illustrates this fact more clearly than Moses. When we look at his life, we understand the importance of moving forward with courage and strength.
The prince becomes a shepherd
Moses was the son of two Levites. Because the Pharaoh of the day had ordered all newborn boys to be drowned in the Nile, his life was in danger from the beginning. Jochebed, Moses’ mother, finally decided to abandon her son in a basket in the Nile and leave him to God’s wise guidance.
The Almighty eventually led Moses to become a prince in Egypt as the adopted son of Pharaoh’s daughter (Acts 7:21–22). And so Moses lived until the age of 40, with the prospect of one day becoming king over Egypt.
But Moses was conscious of his Hebrew heritage. It must have been an inner ordeal for him to choose sides. Would he publicly identify himself as Hebrew to the Egyptians? What would the consequences be?
