Scripture Prompt
The Desolation of Beavers
Restoring the years that were lost in the garden
The Lord says, “I will give you back what you lost to the swarming locusts, the hopping locusts, the stripping locusts, and the cutting locusts. It was I who sent this great destroying army against you. Once again you will have all the food you want, and you will praise the Lord your God, who does these miracles for you. Never again will my people be disgraced. (Joel 2: 25–26, NLT)
The Desolation of Beaver
My husband came inside after his usual survey of the gardens.
When we bought the property, our focus was on what we could do with the outside, not on the house. The house was small but sufficient for our needs. The exterior was overgrown, disheveled, and bleak with broken fences and rusty fire barrels.
But we both had the same dream that put a smile on our faces. And we’d become quite proud of our accomplishments in the garden over the years.
But his face that day was one of disappointment and, perhaps, a slight concern as he searched my face to determine what mood I was in.
“The beavers have taken the trees at the front.” He inhaled and waited.
