I absolutely love fall. I never used to, but when I got really into pumpkin spice, then everything changed.

The pumpkin spice, apple orchard, apple pies, pumpkin patch, all the basic family photos. It’s all amazing. My favorite thing is the colors.

Today specifically, I was driving down the highway, stuck in traffic, and then I just sat and looked at the absolute beauty of it all. Everything God had created. Green, orange, red, yellow, brown, I normally am not a basic-neutral color person, but again, something about the colors!

As I was sitting in traffic, I took the biggest deep breath.

I got home, and I took my dogs for a walk and examined the trees more. The leaves crunching beneath me, my dogs wagging their tails — except Callie, she just has a little nub that wiggles. We were all so… happy. I felt so relaxed, and again, took a big deep breath.

Summers for everyone are crazy — and winters are stressful

During the summer you’re going on trips, to the cabin, and trying to spend as many waking hours eating hot dogs as possible. And then before you know it, it’s Christmas — winter — and everyone is panicked trying to remember how to drive with the white stuff falling from the sky. And although it’s the most wonderful time of the year, it’s also pretty stressful.

So some may argue that both seasons — summer and winter — are a little stressful. And then right in the middle of them both, is fall. Beautiful fall.

Fall is fun and calming

Walking with friends in the apple orchard, sitting in front of the fireplace watching football with your friends while drinking apple cider. Being together, being present. To be calm, to be grateful and thankful.

Fall is a reminder to be present

So fall, it’s really a big deep breath. A deep breath to remind us to be present in life. To take time to be with those you love and care about and focus on your mental health.

I would encourage you before winter comes to take a fall season deep breath. Go for a walk and don’t listen to music or a podcast, but the sounds of nature.

Spend some time talking with God. Take deep breaths of the crisp fall air, maybe walk with an apple cider or pumpkin spice, and relax. Bring a friend and keep your phones at home and just catch up on life.

Life is so busy, so if you’re like me — I literally have no Saturday free from September to November — it’s important to be present. To enjoy the beauty around you. To reflect before the winter months ahead and the craziness of the holiday season. To take a deep breath.
