Referring to the New Jerusalem, the Bible tells us in Revelations 21:21 that the city contains 12 gates and each gate is a single pearl. The city is immense: approximately 1400 miles square and just as high — a gigantic cube — with streets of gold that is clear as glass.

I confess I’ve never known what to make of this description. Like everything told in the Bible and by near-death-experiencers, it is hard for the human mind to comprehend.

Furthermore, the city is surrounded by a wall that is 216 feet tall. Or it may be that the walls are 1400 miles tall and 216 feet thick. Whichever it is (the Bible is not clear on this), each of the four sides have three Pearly Gates.

I don’t know what your image of the Pearly Gate is, but mine is of a very tall gate (somewhat like the one in the picture above that dwarfs the young lady standing in front of it).

I see a line of people of all ages and nationalities standing patiently in front of each gate. This image comes from an account given by Marv Besteman in his book My Journey to Heaven.

Like many others, Marv had a near-death experience (NDE) and visited a place where he felt incredible joy, peace, and love, so much love that he did not want to return to his earthly body or his wife and family left behind…

My Muse is in hiding, but we cross paths from time to time. I think I gave the old guy too much grief. Maybe he quit without notice.
