MORNING DEVOTIONS

The Right Path

For his name’s sake

Being brought up by African parents, there’s pressure of conforming to strict standards.

I recall a general statement most parents tell their children. “Remember the child of who you are!”

I wonder however, the true intention of this statement. Was it for the purpose of preserving a family name or to really keep one on the right track?

Ironically, God is also protective of his own name, but he does this differently. He does not just charge us not to bring disgrace to his name, but he partners with us to ensure it doesn't happen. He does this by daily guiding our steps to take right decisions.

It looks to me like God protects his own name, by ensuring we end well.

He refreshes my soul; He guides me along the right path for his name’s sake. (Psalms 23:3, NIV)
