Few laborers

One of the greatest needs in our nation today is more Christians sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with their unsaved friends. This has been a need since the church began.

However, evangelism has been on the decline in recent years.

In 2016 Lifeway research conducted a study related to unchurched Christians.

Even though the majority of the 2,000 unchurched Americans they surveyed identified as Christian, many (44%) say they are either nonreligious or belong to a different religion.

The research found that “Close to 2 in 3 unchurched Americans claimed to have multiple Christian friends they interact with regularly.”

However, “Only 3 in 10 unchurched Americans (29%) say a Christian has ever shared with them one-on-one how a person becomes a Christian…”

The chart below summarizes research that was conducted by Lifeway research in 2019. It shows that the majority of American Protestant churchgoers had not shared their faith within the previous 6 months.
