MORNING DEVOTIONS
What a Friend!
Who is in your friendship circle?
Imagine a set of rings around you. Who’s in the center-most ring? Your most intimate friends and family members. Your spouse, no doubt.
Are neighbors our friends? Maybe, maybe not. We may nod a hello, throw a wave when they drive by. That’s not a friend; there’s no intimacy in that acquaintance.
We often casually toss around the word, friend, as it’s a simple description.
Britannica defines friendship:
a state of enduring affection, esteem, intimacy, and trust between two people.
In his book, Gentle and Lowly, Dane Ortland expounds on the Bible’s promise:
In Jesus Christ, we are given a friend who will always enjoy rather than refuse our presence.
I ask you and as well as myself, do we “enjoy and never refuse” His presence?
Pull Jesus into that center-most ring today.
