Have you ever had to make a decision? Silly question, right?
We make big and small decisions all the time.
How to decide?
Sometimes though we may not put enough thought and effort into the decision making. And our decision doesn’t turn out the way we thought it should.
Would you like a way to make better decisions — and instead of even making good ones you could make godly ones.
I have been studying a 7-day devotional on YouVersion by Troy Black called “How to Have God Ideas”.
To me, the bottom line is to stick closer to God.
The “Kingdom of Thrim”
I wrote a children’s story about how a dollmaker, named Yoj, who decided too quickly. He didn’t stop to think, to ask friends or to listen to God. He wanted to have more.
Here was a man that loved God, had a fabulous life, good friends but wasn’t satisfied.
He took a step without looking at what the costs would be.
God never gave up on him. When Yoj (the hero in the book) realized his mistake he asked God for help. Yoj understood that God has a plan for each of us. Now he needs God help to get him out of his predicament.
The “Kingdom of Thrim” is a book for all of us
Jeff Goins says,
“I needed this book. If you feel like you’ve lost your gift or wandered too far from home and aren’t sure if you can find your way back, you need it too.”
The “Kingdom of Thrim” delights children of all ages
Glynis Belec says,
“Janis’s delightful watercolor illustrations add to the charm of this story and the activities and research ideas at the back of the book serve to enhance the enjoyment of THE KINGDOM OF THRIM”
Maria I. Morgan says,
“Author Janis Cox does a marvelous job teaching the timeless truth of seeking God in all of our decisions. Beautifully illustrated by Janis, The Kingdom of Thrim will be popular with children and grandchildren alike!”
Like Yoj, I sometimes jump into things without taking a step back and really asking God for His opinion.
What is Your opinion, God?
In our study, I learned many things about decision-making and finding God ideas.
When we listen to God, then make a decision — wait and see how you feel about it.
God will show you through your mind and body. And if you aren’t finding peace — then watch out.
“For example, if all of your peace goes out the window because of a decision you’re in the process of making, that’s a good indicator that you are not allowing the Holy Spirit to influence your decision-making.” ~ Troy Black
In the story of Thrim, Yoj’s peace does go out the window!
As he prays he starts to hear God’s voice. He starts to find his joy again. Then he hears the words,
“Can it be that I need to go home and make my dolls?”
How do you make decisions?
Do you take time to ask God?
Do you listen to His voice?
May I pray for you and me?
Lord, we know You have a plan for us. But sometimes we run ahead. Other times we hold back. Teach us to move with You. Teach us to listen to Your voice. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
