When you open a Bible to read the Scriptures, how do you approach a section of verses? Like you are studying a reference book to get knowledge? Or words on the page to decipher meaning? The Scriptures are a reference book and a book for meaning and yet they are more than that.

When you let the words wash over you, like reading them three times through a practice called lectio divina, sacred reading something different occurs. The Holy Spirit guides your reading.

Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another — showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us. (2 Timothy 3:1–17, MSG)

If we believe that every part of Scripture is God-breathed, then how do we allow God to breathe that truth into us?

Lectio Divina is an ancient meditative practice from the days of the Desert Mothers and Fathers, who repeated scripture as they went about their daily work. The Lectio Divina practice provides a way to meditate on Scripture that allows the Holy Spirit to whisper to you through your mind, heart and soul.
