Barbara Brown Taylor, a former Episcopal priest, and author, is credited with coining the phrase “what’s saving my life right now.”

Taylor first asked and answered the question in her memoir, Leaving Church, where she was prompted to share what was currently sustaining her life during a speaking engagement.

Taylor believes we should each revisit this question regularly to foster self-awareness and grounding. By focusing on the positive aspects of life, she suggests, individuals can cultivate a more optimistic outlook.

You can enhance this practice by creating a list of life-affirming elements, which can serve as a powerful antidote to negativity and overwhelm.

So, in no particular order, here is what is saving my life right now.

This heated eye mask

I read about the heated eye mask in an article on this platform, and it sounded like something I needed to soothe my dry and irritated eyes. I put it on my wish list and, a month later, stumbled upon it in a bargain bin for $7.00!

This mask not only soothes my eyes and breaks up the blocked tear ducts, but it also blocks out the stimulation from the outside world that easily overwhelms my sensitive nervous system. If soothing was a noun, this eye mask would be it.

This eye mask helps me fall asleep faster and stay asleep sounder. I also use it in the morning when I meditate to block out distractions.

Kerry and I met at work and realized we both had aspirations to own our own businesses. I told her about my vision for a membership helping women declutter their lives. She told me about her Etsy store, and we decided to combine our energies and talents.
