Why Consistency Matters
Finding faith and success through consistency
When I was younger and hadn’t yet accepted Christ, I used to wonder why we had to observe morning devotion every day. I’d ask myself, “Is God that demanding?” It seemed like a chore, and when we missed a morning devotion, my mom would be upset and seek forgiveness. Little did I understand the importance of consistency.
I also recall the first time I tried a skincare product. I didn’t achieve the desired results because I wasn’t consistent in using it. There were days I forgot to apply it, and then I complained about not seeing any improvements. It was a simple lesson on the value of consistency.
Consistency is a fundamental principle in life. Almost everything we do requires it. When consistency is lacking, the desired results often remain out of reach.
Many people believe that God doesn’t answer their prayers, but if you were to ask them, they only pray in times of trouble. As a Christian, it’s crucial to be consistent in prayer and in studying the Word.
Think about what happens if you don’t eat for a week, not by choice, but by neglect. You’d grow weak, lose strength, and your health would deteriorate. Your spirit experiences a similar decline when you lack consistency in prayer and the study of God’s Word.
Jesus emphasized the importance of constant prayer when He said,
“Men ought to always pray and not faint.” (Luke 18:1, NKJV)
Additionally, Joshua 1:8 tells us,
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success” (Joshua 1:8, NKJV).
Therefore, it’s vital to maintain a consistent habit of praying and studying the Word every day, not just when you face challenges or when you feel like it. Be intentional and persistent in your faith journey. Remember, consistency is key.
To be consistent in your prayers and Bible study, here are some practical steps:
- Ask for God’s Help: Seek God’s guidance and strength to make time for regular prayer and Bible study. “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5, NKJV)
- Schedule It: Put prayer and Bible study on your calendar as non-negotiable appointments. Treat it as essential to your well-being.
- Be Consistent: Remember, consistency is a journey. Stay disciplined, and don’t underestimate the value of small beginnings. Consider finding an accountability partner to help you maintain consistency.
My mum always said, “A lazy person cannot truly serve God.” Avoid laziness, learn to be consistent, and be intentional in your spiritual journey. Your consistency in prayer and studying God’s Word will lead to a life filled with purpose and blessings.
