Self-reflection at the gym

If there is one thing I’ve learned about working out, it is that it’s one of the things that reflects how we think and operate in multiple areas of our lives.

Allow me to explain.

A few weeks ago, I spent some time in the gym. I was hoping that this would help me recover from some serious back pain I was experiencing that started the Thursday prior.

Every time I go I do a strength training routine that includes several workouts and usually takes about an hour and fifteen minutes.

One combination of workouts I do include pull-ups and dips. While running through my normal routine I considered changing the way I did my pull-ups, which would decrease the amount I was able to do but would give me a better all-around workout. And that’s when the thoughts set in.

I had a growing concern in my mind about what others would think if they saw me do considerably fewer pull-ups than I normally would do.

I thought, “They wouldn’t know that I could actually do more but was trying something a bit different this time.”
