Would You Die For Me
I’m not Jesus, so no!
“Would you die for me?”
This was a question posed to me by Cora, one of the youth I was teaching in Sunday School.
We were studying a passage in Romans.
For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person — though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die — but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.(Romans 5: 6–9, ESV)
In an attempt to show that dying for someone isn’t easy, I proceeded to ask the youth if they would die for me. They all said no, citing as reasons that they didn’t really know me, or I’m not family.
Then Cora turned it on me.
“Would you die for me?” she asked.
The question surprised me. I hesitated.
“What’s the context?” I asked, in an attempt to deflect.
“If I needed a heart would you give me yours?”
I wasn’t expecting that and stumbled for an answer. You might be asking, what’s the problem? Just answer her!
