Are you willing ro sacrifice 1000 years?
That is a magnificent image, isn’t it?!? Blue sky, blue ocean and a perfect sandy beach. Looking forward to your next holiday, right?
We might ruin that beautiful though for a while…Did you know that a plastic bottle takes approximately 1000 years to decompose?!?!…Yes, we need to take a minute or two to think about that. And other plastics even longer. It’s a worrying thought when thinking about how much plastic we use in our everyday lives. And that most of this plastic is reaching our oceans. But better yet, let’s take four minutes to watch this video.
Now that we know more or that we have been reminded of the things we already knew, here are some five ways we can help. We can all do our part, no matter how small. Every day.
There is also another way to help. And this in our reach and based on our decisions. As it’s about our kids and the toys we buy for them. It’s not easy to resist the charm of a beautiful toy that your kids keep asking for. Or that you find useful. Or that you just like. It happens to all, every day. But maybe next time you might take a step back and consider a recycled toy.
There are a lot of options out there. At Komodo, we have chosen Green Toys. Using 100% post-consumer recycled plastic, Green Toys not only divert material from landfills, but also reduce carbon footprint and potentially harmful greenhouse gas emissions. While recycled milk jugs are the primary ingredient in these toys, they sometimes integrate other types of recycled plastic such as yogurt cups. Every 500 grams of recycled plastic used to create a Green Toys saves enough energy to power a TV for three weeks or a laptop for one month. Yes, three weeks and one month. Moreover, each Green Toys that gets recycled in its turn saves around 3.7l of water. To find out more, here’s their story!
You can discover some of their recycled toys in our collection as well.
So, is plastic waste something you are concerned about? Do let us know what you think, right here in the comments section or on our Facebook and/or Instagram pages. We hope you find the subject as much as compelling as we did.
