Komorebi Collective II

We’re thrilled to launch Komorebi Collective II today, our second collective focused on investing in exceptional female and nonbinary crypto founders.

In a space where values are paramount, funding is the best way to put your money where your mouth is. To impact the next generation of systems and infrastructure using crypto assets and blockchains, the builders must reflect the users. We’re more excited than ever to double down on our mission.

Over the past two years, we have spoken to over 150 female and nonbinary founders and funded several. We’ve hosted community events, collaborated with our portfolio, and persistently evangelized our mission. The first collective helped us anchor in the community and truly understand how rich the female and nonbinary founder ecosystem is.

For Komorebi Collective II we are doubling down on two things:

• Investing in founders at the earliest stages. We hope to meet founders ideally before they launch their ideas. There is no such thing as too early.
• Scaling our portfolio support. With over 30 collective members, we aim to offer unique, individualized support across a variety of areas — whether it’s engineering, product, fundraising, or simply brainstorming. Leveraging Komorebi Collective’s experience and expertise, we aim to provide best-in-class support to our founders.

We have validated a few hypotheses since we first started this journey. First, there are so many highly talented, yet under-served founders in our industry. Second, strong financial data exists to support funding diverse teams. Teams with a female founder grow faster, perform better, and exit sooner, on average. And yet, only 1.9% of venture capital funding went to female-led startups last year. Third, the investor collective model works; individual operators and angels have the desire to invest in private markets and it also leads to unique portfolio support opportunities for founders.

As we look ahead, we have much work to do. And we can’t wait to get started.
