Esports Business Review
I apologize for the lack of content this week but it seemed to be a slow period for esports and gaming companies in terms of funding.
YaLLA Esports Secures Seed Funding
YaLLa Esports is considered one of the leading esports organizations in the Middle East and Northern Africa (MENA) and officially secured seed funding with the help of lead investor Kushal Shah. According to Startup Magazine, “”Finnish-born, Dubai-based esports trailblazer, Klaus Kajetski founded YaLLa Esports in 2016, having been heavily involved in building the regional esports ecosystem. With 20 years of esports and gaming experience, Klaus has grown YaLLa Esports to a globally recognized team with players and staff from multiple nationalities including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Tunisia, having success in international and regional esports tournaments.” This funding round is expected to be used to search and develop the best talent in the region; to build great team facilities and to help with travel costs to compete on a global scale, as well as for expansion across the MENA region.
Turtle Beach Acquires Roccat
Turtle Beach has been known as one of the premier headset makers of the last 10+ years, but in what seems like an extremely late pivot, they are now acquiring pc gaming accessory brand, Roccat. In more recent times, Turtle Beach has seemed to move towards a value-based approach instead of exclusively quality-based. This isn’t to say that they have made a poor business decision, just that the brand started as a high-quality brand for headsets but have been overtaken recently by the likes of HyperX, Logitech, and Steelseries, to name a few. Roccat will probably be a valuable, higher-end brand that the company can take advantage of through their catalog of mice, keyboards, mouse pads, and headsets. The deal is for $19.2M in cash, stock, and earn-out payments, according to the press release.
