100 Thieves Raises $35M

100 Thieves has officially closed their third round of funding. The $35M round was led by Artist Capital Management with their Chief Investment Officer, Josh Dienstag, joining 100 Thieves’ board of directors. 100 Thieves will use the funds to bring all of its businesses under one roof at a new headquarters and training facility in LA. “This past year has been a massive success for 100 Thieves. Our esports teams are winning championships, our apparel is selling out, and our podcasts have topped the charts,” said Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag, CEO of 100 Thieves, in a statement. “Artist Capital Management saw our vision and our progress and has stepped up to support us. We now have everything we need to be the biggest gaming and esports brand in the world.” According to Venture Beat, since raising their Series A in October of last year, 100 Thieves has grown all of its business units. “Competitively, 100 Thieves has won the two most recent Call of Duty major championships, competed in the 2018 League of Legends World Championships, and is sending six qualifiers to the upcoming Fortnite World Cup.”

Pixion Games Raises $2M

London-based Pixion Games closed $2M in seed funding to develop mobile esports games. The funding round was led by Eldridge Industries and included Jabre Capital Family Office and three angel investors. The funds will be used to develop the company’s games and scale the team, which is already composed of experienced industry professionals from King Digital, Konami, Curve, and Hutch Games. According to Yahoo Finance, “This latest round comes after Pixion Games received pre-seed and follow-on funding from former King executives, Nir Efrat, and Alan Fung. Pixion Games’ mission is to bring the thrill of Player Versus Player (“PVP”) gaming to the next generation of mobile gamers, building competitive multiplayer games that can be enjoyed in short sessions leading to the expansion of “lunchtime esports.”

IDN Media Acquires GGWP.ID

Multiplatform media company IDN Media has acquired the Indonesian esports website GGWP.ID, aiming to make it the “ESPN of esports”. IDN chief executive officer Winston Utomo said in a press release: “We believe that the esports phenomenon has just begun. With GGWP.ID, we envision to create the biggest and most impactful esports company in the region for millennials and Gen Z.” GGWP.ID will have four main business units targeting esports enthusiasts, event organizers, teams, and a multi-platform creative digital agency, run by founder and chief executive Ricky Setiawan and staffed by a team of 60.
