The founding father of Modern Singapore has passed on. The nation is in a state of mourning and remembering.

In an October 2, 2011 article titled Love Does Indeed Spring Eternal published in The Sunday Times and can be read in full here, Lee Wei Ling revealed a note that her father, Lee Kuan Yew, wrote to her and her two siblings:

For reasons of sentiment, I would like part of my ashes to be mixed up with Mama’s, and both her ashes and mine put side by side in the columbarium. We were joined in life and I would like our ashes to be joined after this life.

Do yourself a favor and read the article. Read it in the morning to start your day right or read it in the evening to end your day in a positive note. The world will remember LKY mostly for what he’d done for Singapore. The article written by his daughter will make you remember LKY as a loving father and a loving husband.

In a previous blog post, I mentioned I haven’t heard much talk about the then present condition of the country’s first prime minister. And I wondered if it was because I don’t understand their local language. Well, Sunday morning the government released a one-sentence update describing the condition of LKY as “weakened further”. Hours later people from all walks of life went to Singapore General Hospital to leave well-wishes for LKY.

Monday morning it was announced that the founding leader of modern Singapore has passed on. Streams of people went to Singapore General Hospital and Istana to pay their respects. The country is in mourning.

FM stations have been playing instrumental music all morning continuing to this afternoon when I started writing this. I thought I actually like the instrumental versions of pop songs being played. If only the circumstances upon which they are being played are different.

The nation will mourn Mr. Lee Kuan Yew for seven days, the government’s official statement says. He will be remembered for way more days than that.
