오미세고 블록체인과 오미세고 토큰

오미세고 블록체인은 이더리움 블록체인을 상위 체인으로 둔 별도의 하위 체인으로, 이 두 체인은 스마트 컨트랙트를 통해 검증된 정보를 주고 받습니다. ERC-20 표준을 따르는 오미세고 토큰은, PoS (Proof of Stake) 합의 방식을 따르는 오미세고 블록체인에서 스테이킹과 스테이킹한 홀더에 대한 보상에 활용됩니다.

이더리움의 확장성을 해결하는 플라즈마 기술의 최초 도입

오미세고 프로젝트는 이더리움 창시자 비탈릭 부테린, 라이트닝 네트워크 창시자 조셉 푼, 그리고 텐더민트와 코스모스 창시자 재 권이 어드바이저로 참여하며 초창기부터 주목을 받아 왔습니다. 실제로 오미세고 블록체인은 이더리움의 확장성 문제를 해결하기 위해 비탈릭과 조셉이 고안한 플라즈마 기술이 최초로 도입된 프로젝트입니다. 플라즈마 네트워크는 별도의 하부 블록체인에 데이터를 저장하고, 검증에 필요한 최소한의 데이터만 기존 블록체인에 올려 일반적인 이더리움 네트워크 상의 검증보다 훨씬 빠른 속도로 처리될 수 있게 하는 기술입니다. 오미세고는 플라즈마 개발 속도를 고려하여 텐더민트 기술을 이용한 블록체인도 동시에 개발 중에 있습니다. 텐더민트의 비잔틴 장애허용 (BFT: Byzantium Fault Tolerance) 기반 합의 알고리즘 역시 플라즈마처럼 빠른 속도로 처리를 가능하게 합니다. 플라즈마 또는 텐더민트를 기반으로 할 오미세고 블록체인은, 이더리움 기술에 기반을 두면서도 비자카드에 버금가는 처리 속도를 예고하고 있습니다. 이 때문에 실생활에서 결제 솔루션으로 쓰일 수 있는 가능성이 기대되는 바입니다.

Decentralized Future Finance

Blockchain enables transactions in a peer-to-peer network to be validated without the need for an intermediary. Thus, many people expect that value exchange via the blockchain network will create more innovation in the finance industry in times to come. OmiseGO is a Ethereum-based blockchain project started by Omise, the parent company created as an online payment gateway in Thailand, Singapore, and Japan. OmiseGO provides a white label wallet, which supports trading of various assets including fiat money; cryptocurrencies; gift cards; and loyalty points, and notably, the OMG team is building a unique decentralized exchange (DEX) called ODEX and payment network, where assets can be exchanged and managed. The OMG team aims to create a future that lets people cash money in and out and transfer it to other users — all without the need of a bank account. Korbit has decided to list OmiseGo(OMG), a token for OmiseGo network, which verifies transactions on the OmiseGo blockchain.

OMG Blockchain and OMG Token

The OMG blockchain is built upon the Ethereum blockchain, and these two separate chains utilize a validator network where verified information is exchanged via smart contracts. Furthermore, the OMG blockchain is Proof-of-Stake, and the token is an ERC-20 token. If a holder of OMG has a certain amount of the token in their wallet, they get the opportunity to “stake” and earn rewards for confirming transactional blocks.

Plasma Technology: New Scalability Solution for the Ethereum Network

The OMG project has garnered considerable public attention from the beginning by having notable members as advisors in the team, including Vitalik Buterin, founder of Ethereum; Joseph Poon, founder of Lightning and Plasma; and Jae Kwon, creator of Tendermint and Cosmos network. Plasma is a development of Vitalik Buterin and Joseph Poon designed to solve the scalability issue of Ethereum, and OMG has been one of the first tokens to begin development on the Plasma Network. Plasma minimizes the amount of data being computed for transaction authentication through child chain networks connected to the parent chain, enabling much faster authentication than the Ethereum network. Considering the speed of Plasma development, OmiseGo (OMG) and Tendermint teams have been working together in order to develop the “Honte milestone,” a Tendermint chain. The classical Byzantium Fault Tolerance, BFT, consensus algorithms of Tendermint also allows for a fast network and high transactions. The OMG blockchain built upon either the Plasma network or Tendermint chain will be even faster than the Visa network even though it is based on the Ethereum technology. There is no doubt that OmiseGo comes in to offer a real-time payment solution.
