Green tea’s anti-inflammatory can help reduce skin irritation!

These lotions are for my friends, a green tea lover.

I bought the airless vacuum pumps first, so that I calculated the total lotion amount of 14 oz.

If you want to make this lotion, please recalculate whole volume of your packaging materials first.

This is the lotion recipe.

9.10 oz Distilled Water (65%) ~ https://amzn.to/3fqdx1j
1.68 oz Green Tea Butter Blend (12%) ~ (alternatively mango butter or shea butter https://amzn.to/3s1E9Lr)
1.68 oz Grape Seed Oil (12%) ~ https://amzn.to/2V8ii95
1.40 oz Emulsifying Wax (10%) ~ https://amzn.to/2WN8q50
0.07 oz Preservative (0.5%) ~ https://amzn.to/2WIIk2V
0.07 oz Vitamin E Natural T-50 (0.5%) ~ https://amzn.to/3A0zLio

The final volume of these are 14 oz.

I bought something like this, airless vacuum pump for 3.5 oz. (Link https://amzn.to/3C5G0TT)

So there’s a percentage you can use for your own calculation.

For instance if you want to make 500 ml of this lotion, you need 65% of 500 ml distilled water which is 325 ml.

This green tea butter I got was on sale, but it took so many days (weeks!) to get delivered. But so happy with the purchase.

Green Tea is so said it has somewhat anti-aging effects on skin. Of course you cannot expect anti aging for 12% of this butter, but it could be a great present for my Matcha lover friend. :)

Well I couldn’t find anything on Amazon, you can alternatively use Mango butter or Shea butter instead. (Raw Mango Butter https://amzn.to/3s1E9Lr)

1.40 oz Emulsifying Wax (10%) ~ https://amzn.to/2WN8q50

This is a must product when making lotions.

Water and oils and butters don’t come together, but emulsifying wax helps mixed together.

You can use in a double boiler to get it warmed and melted with other oils and butter.

0.07 oz Preservative (0.5%) ~ https://amzn.to/2WIIk2V (Paraben Free)

So called natural cosmetics, or handcrafted lotions require something like preservatives.

There’s preservative for water soluble, and oil soluble. And every other preservative has a different ratio of usage.

For this particular lotion, I used liquid Germall Plus, because I use 65% water in this lotion. But if you happen to have oil soluble preservative, since there’s also a butter and oil, you still can use that one.

Just make sure you want the broad spectrum preservative.

Especially these types of handcrafted skin cares need both preservative, and antioxidant for preventing oils go rancid.

Some people look for natural preservatives, that’s okay, but since pretty much all the natural preservatives in current market is not as effective as synthetic preservatives.

So if natural preservatives get you a molded lotion, bacterial lotion within a week, that can cause a skin disease or skin allergies.

This preservative I used is usage rate of 0.1~0.5%, if you think this is too much, you can use it between 0.1%-0.3% as well.

And mine was heat sensitive. So I had to use it under 120 F or 50 C. Some preservatives are meant to keep in a fridge, therefore make sure you contact the manufacturer for instruction.

It’s important that you know what you are using through the manufacturer!

0.07 oz Vitamin E (0.5%) ~ https://amzn.to/3A0zLio

A natural antioxidant for lotion making, Vitamin E oil!

Sometimes people ask if they can use only vitamin E on their lotion, but no.

Antioxidant is for oils and butters. They will go rancid, go bad if there’s no antioxidant.

But preservatives are for bacteria, and molds. They are natural, so if there’s a water, they are going to live naturally too.

We both need a preservative, and antioxidant.

9.10 oz Distilled Water (65%) ~ https://amzn.to/3fqdx1j

For this green tea concept of lotion, I used green tea tea bag.

I used both green tea butter and green tea itself, but the aroma is not overpowering that much. If you want to use more fragrance, that’s okay.

For essential oils, just make sure they are okay for skin contact. And be cautious using it from 0.1 to 0.3 %, especially for skin sensitive people.

Since unlike soap, the lotion is going to sit still in skin, it can cause some irritation.

For skin safe fragrance oils, it seems like it can go up to 0.5–1%. If you go up to 3%, some people can react on allergies or small pimples, irritations on skin.

But I still think essential oil with plant’s toxin can be dangerous, unless it’s really safe essential oil like lavender or chamomile. So use skin safe fragrance oils, if you still have concerns, then just don’t use it like me.

Make sure you check with the manufacturer again, and test products on yourself as well. (testing on you doesn’t guarantee the same result to others.)

9.10 oz Distilled Water (65%) ~ https://amzn.to/3fqdx1j

And now, put a tea bag to warm distilled water!

We are also going to use a double boiler to melt the emulsifying wax and oil, and butter together.

1.68 oz Green Tea Butter Blend (12%) ~ (or Mango butter https://amzn.to/3s1E9Lr)

I love so much of this green tea butter, the aroma is just hint of green tea.

But as time goes, the aroma is weaker than using actual fragrance, of course.

If you are using refined odorless butter, like Shea butter and Mango butter, it might be a good idea to put some fragrance oils.

1.40 oz Emulsifying Wax (10%) ~ https://amzn.to/2WN8q50

And use a double boiler to make it warm.

And if wax and oils are somewhat melted, you can pour the water.

Since there’s an emulsifying wax, you can certainly mix them together.

This lotion however is not like water thin, even though we used a lot of water.

1.68 oz Green Tea Butter Blend (12%) ~ Or Mango Butter https://amzn.to/3s1E9Lr

It would come together more thinner at first.

0.07 oz Preservative (0.5%) ~ https://amzn.to/2WIIk2V

Since my preservative is heat sensitive, now I put my preservative and vitamin E at the very last.

Some preservative, even the same one from a different manufacturer, have a different property, so look at the instruction how it should be used.

Just don’t buy anything ‘natural’ for its sake. Natural preservative sounds great but in current market the natural preservative are not so good on preventing bacteria activity. Maybe in the future we might have a good quality natural preservative.

This preservative I use is heat sensitive, so either in 120 F, or 50 C, I can put this in.

Stir well, and let it sit until the texture is not thin, runny like water. After one to two hours, the lotion gets thicker and it’s time to package.

And put together on the bottles you bought!

The lotion itself is not much thin, so it could block the pump in some lotion containers.

Done for the lotion making!

I personally love lotion making since I have all sorts of skin diseases and allergies.

It’s easy, and simple. You should try making one at home.

And here’s the Youtube video.

Well, thank you for watching and reading. Have a happy day~!
