Pear scents perfect for fall :)

I’m so out of my brain working, and two boys, with their homework assignments!

I do things for myself whenever possible, I feel like soap making and recipe development is what I really like to spend my time.

This time, is for fall season. My favorite season of the year. Pear is just perfect for fall. I love apples, and pumpkins, everything about fall.

The sad part is that I did not do the fragrance test, so I didn’t expect it would accelerate the batch. I so chose spoon ploping method to pour.

This is the recipe :D

Linoleic ~ (for softness, mildness) ~ 11
Linolenic ~ (for softness, mildness) ~ 2

281.5 g Sodium Hydroxide ~ https://amzn.to/3mVRPXO

Measure out the sodium hydroxide. Flakes are good, beads are good, but sometimes both can have little powdery dusts in the air.

So please please wear your mask, gloves, eye goggles, and long sleeve tops and pants.

You also need to open the window so that air can flow, little ventilation.

422.3 g Distilled Water ~ https://amzn.to/3jE44WA

As always, it’s recommended to use cold iced distilled water.

Especially you have a hard water, you have too much mineral contents. And it can cause unnecessary reaction from lye solution.

So it would be nice if you could use distilled water.

Pour sodium hydroxide into the water.

If you pour water into lye, it would spark and jump all over your place. Lye reacts with water. It is too risky, so please pour lye over the water.

500 g Coconut Oil (25%) ~ https://amzn.to/38y8yrz

Measure hard oils and butters such as coconut oils.

I got my coco and palm oils.

500 g Palm Oil (25%) ~ https://amzn.to/3jpa31h

Palm oil can be sustainable and organic, so look for the marks in front.

Since the palm tree plantation destroys the environment, palm oil companies try their best to source sustainable and/or organic in the market.

But if you still don’t want to use, please use other recipe omitted palm oil.

540 g Olive Oil (27%) ~ https://amzn.to/3DMlRCz

My dear olive oil.

I have extra virgin olive oil today, you can replace with pure olive oil, pomace or light olive oils as well. Their SAP values are all the same.

The color will be different though. Extra virgin and pomace will increase green colors in your batch.

2 g Rosemary Oleoresin Extract (ROE) ~ https://amzn.to/3gV0Mwp

These are rosemary extract for preventing oil rancidity. It is different product from rosemary essential oil.

I also used to use Vitamin E for rancidity, but Vitamin E is not so effective.

20 g Sugar ~ https://amzn.to/3kKeMua
20 g Citric Acid ~ https://amzn.to/3ltK9JV

I split some water and added sugar and citric acid.

Sugar, as I mentioned earlier, makes big bubbly lather, citric acid is good for soap scum. I told you too many times, haha.

But you might be the first reading my soap making, citric acid reacts with lye, and it holds the mineral contents in hard water. Reaction makes sodium citrate, which prevents soap scum in bath.

This is very efficient for those who have hard water in the area. If you have soft water, you are lucky! Soap scum blocks my drain a lot.

Mix the sugar / citric acid solution into lye solution.

Warmed hard oils / butters go into the soft oil container.

And now stir stir stir and use stick mixer to combine.

You can keep stirring with spatula, but with stick mixer, you would get faster result to emulsion.

Of course watch out and use for a few seconds.

Now use mica and color the batch.

When I purchased the pear scent, it didn’t say anything about acceleration. But my batch got accelerated.

If you didn’t test your fragrance, (…) add it right before you pour.

I added mica before I added fragrance -> and I stir again for mica, I got like step three traces, hard to pour level.

Get the color ready and get molds.

It was a little bit too thick to pour, like baby food thickness?

So I tried spoon plop with this batch.

Well still they are pretty! Spoon plop will make very nice look.

Do you see how thick it is? The soap batter is getting thicker.

So I put it on the mold a little faster, faster.

I was more afraid of the batter getting thicker, than whatever color I should match in the mold.

The thing is, when the batter is thick, there’s going to be lots of air bubbles.

So you kinda have to tap it down on the ground.

The spoon plops will get smooth out, but to get rid of air bubbles, we kinda have to tap them.

When we make stone soaps, we use spoon plops as well.

And let’s try putting up creamy soaps at the top.

The bottom parts are pebbles, but I still wanted to try cake like design.

Flat out the top, and now get the frosting.

I tried the frosting all over it, but unbalancing design can work somehow?

Well but I think it might work better to have big frosting all over the top when use.

And just like a cake, with sugar powder on top, I put up the skin safe sprinkles.

You know body sprinkles, and some are skin safe for cheerleaders or models. There are biodegradable sprinkles available also!

This is the YouTube video!

What should I make next?
