Taiwan swirl technique is actually originated from Taiwan :)

Today my concept was violet flower, using both yellow and violet.

Soap has to be good at cleaning, but if it smells good, it makes you feel better haha

This soap has more than 50% of olive oils. We call the soap with one oil at 100% a castile soap. In Western websites, we call a soap with more than… about 50? or 70%? is called a bastille soap. Like a castile soap, especially when olive oils are used more.

This is the recipe :D

Saturated 27
Lauric ~ (for hardness, water solubility, big bubbles) ~ 10
Myristic ~ (for hardness, water solubility, big bubbles) ~ 4
Palmitic ~ (for hardness, long lasting, small bubbles) ~ 11
Stearic ~ (for hardness, long lasting, small bubbles) ~ 3
Unsaturated 73
Ricinoleic ~ (for mildness, bubble stabilizer) ~ 3
Oleic ~ (for mildness, water solubility) ~ 54
Linoleic ~ (for softness, mildness)~ 11
Linolenic ~ (for softness, mildness) ~ 2

When unsaturated fats are high, soaps usually are very squashy, and soft. Even you add some salt, it does not harden at all.

Keep your soap in a dry place for longer use. :)

411.4 g Distilled Water ~ https://amzn.to/3jE44WA

Get your distilled water as ice or some ice! It helps you get less fumes and cool lye water faster.

20 g Citric Acid ~ https://amzn.to/3ltK9JV

As I wrote it before, citric acid reacts with lye, and it makes the sodium citrate. And sodium citrate prevents soap scrum in hard water.

In South Korea, the tap water doesn’t contain many minerals, it’s very soft water. But in California, where I live, or anywhere in United States with hard water, soap scrum is big concern.

And that’s when you want the citric acid in your soap. I usually add as 1% of fats I include in the soap.

20 g Sugar ~ https://amzn.to/3kKeMua

Sugar is also added at 1% of total fats.

Sugar makes more lather. Sugar adds more bubbles, like oils that add big lather.

Of course, if you add more sugar, the water can be turned to red color. Or, sometimes, the soap can be something else than a soap.

After you measure the sugar, put some water into another bowl, then dissolve sugar.

274.2 g Sodium Hydroxide ~ https://amzn.to/3mVRPXO

Measure lye into a proper container.

Pour lye slowly into iced water.

You need to put your mask, goggles, and love sleeve gloves. If you get a splash in your skin, then you have to go to emergency room right away.

400 g Coconut Oil (20%) ~ https://amzn.to/38y8yrz

Now double boiler the hard butters. Measure coconut oil, then use double boiler method.

When you use a double boiler, the temp goes around 100–110 F. I do not recommend boiling fats.

1240 g Olive Oil (62%) ~ https://amzn.to/3DMlRCz
300 g Canola Oil (15%) ~ https://amzn.to/3CmRrpw
60 g Castor Oil (3%) ~ https://amzn.to/3zqGlxM

Measure olive oil, canola oil, and castor oil.

2 g Rosemary Oleoresin Extract (ROE) ~ https://amzn.to/3gV0Mwp

Rosemary extract is usually added at 0.05–0.1%.

The reason why we add this is to prevent oxidation. People use vitamin E also, vitamin E is not really helpful when oxidation.

And the discoloration happens right away, slightly yellowy color. But after four weeks of drying and molecule curing, the soap changes into its original color.

20 g Sodium Lactate ~ https://amzn.to/3Cta5fv

Since the salts are harder to dissolve, I prefer to use sodium lactate instead of actual salt.

Mica ~ https://amzn.to/2YOZw8y

Get mica ready. I wanted violet, so I picked violet and yellow colors.

Now add lye solution to oils.

Sometimes lye solution reacts with the air, it creates a thin layer on the top. Or there might be sometimes some sugars left at the bottom.

You can use filter or strainer.

And now it’s the time to get emulsion.

I feel like after 3–5 seconds of stick mixer, it looks like the emulsion is done.

Emulsion is when fats and lye combine together. After using a stick mixer, fats and water get to be the soap mixture.

After that, you can use spatula to mix some.

Up to 10 seconds with stick mixer, you still have the soap batter without any trace. Don’t be afraid making mistakes.

Mix mica with some soap batters.

Separator ~ https://amzn.to/3mMX1eA

You can make separators with thick boards, or you can buy acrylic separator for soap molds.

The thing is, acrylic tool didn’t really fit in the mold. So… I had to grab it with hands.

And use the stick to make a swirl.

These swirls on the top need to be cut vertically, I mean, longer side.

That’s how you would get a beautiful swirl soaps. So it would be better if you could pour the soap batter in thin way, in many molds, widely.

Ta-da! The swirl is done!

This is the YouTube Video!

What should I make next?
