Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to reshape industries and drive innovation across the globe. For those looking to deepen their knowledge and expertise in AI, the AI 102 exam is a pivotal step towards mastering advanced concepts and skills. This blog post outlines my overall experience on how i went about preparing for this exam.

Understanding the AI 102 Exam

The AI 102 exam also known as Designing and Implementing an Azure AI Solution exam is designed to assess your proficiency in advanced AI concepts and applications. It covers a range of topics including machine learning algorithms, deep learning frameworks, natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, and more. The exam format typically includes multiple-choice questions, practical scenarios, and case studies, testing both theoretical knowledge and practical problem-solving skills.

Skills Measured

  • Plan and manage an Azure AI solution (15–20%)
  • Implement content moderation solutions (10–15%)
  • Implement computer vision solutions (15–20%)
  • Implement natural language processing solutions (30–35%)
  • Implement knowledge mining and document intelligence solutions (10–15%)
  • Implement generative AI solutions (10–15%)

Prerequisites for AI-102 Exam

  • Familiarity with basic Azure services and concepts is essential. This includes understanding Azure subscriptions, resource groups, Azure Portal, and Azure CLI.
  • Basic understanding of Python OR C# programming language is highly beneficial. At the start of the exam it will ask for your preferred programming language.
  • Familiarity with Azure AI services such as Azure Cognitive Services (e.g., Computer Vision, Natural Language Processing), Azure Machine Learning, Azure Bot Service, and Azure Cognitive Search.
  • An Azure subscription to practice the exercises. Microsoft provides one when you sign up for the first time along with some credits to use the services.

Learning Path

This study guide should help you understand what to expect on the exam and includes a summary of the topics the exam covers and the following is a comprehensive learning path on Microsoft Learn that covers various aspects of designing and implementing AI solutions using Azure services. Each topic contains documentation about the Azure AI service followed by a lab exercise and a knowledge check at the end. I would recommend to go through each of the section throughly and complete all the sections of the module before moving to the next one.

· Get started with Azure AI Services

· Create computer vision solutions with Azure AI Vision

· Develop natural language processing solutions with Azure AI Services

· Implement knowledge mining with Azure AI Search

· Develop solutions with Azure AI Document Intelligence

· Develop Generative AI solutions with Azure OpenAI Service

Additional Resources :

Online Courses and Platforms : Pluralsight, Udemy

Practice Tests : Microsoft offical practice assessment, Udemy, Whizlabs to help you prepare for the AI-102 exam. These practice tests provide simulated timed environment similar to an actual exam. Practice tests help with answering questions within the given time frame there by helping you with time management in the actual exam.

Hands on Labs and documentation : Github repository with hands-on labs and demos specifically designed for Azure AI services. These labs provide practical experience in implementing AI solutions on Azure. Use Azure free tier to experiment with various Azure AI services and their integration. Official Azure AI Service documentation from Microsoft covers Azure AI services such as Cognitive Services, Machine Learning, and Bot Services. This includes tutorials, quickstarts, and deep dive articles.

Exam Sandbox : This will let you experience the look and feel of the exam before taking it. You’ll be able to interact with different question types in the same user interface you’ll use during the exam.

Community and Forums: Engage with the Azure community through forums, discussion boards, and social media platforms. Participate in discussions, ask questions, and share your knowledge with peers.

Tips for Exam Day

Last-Minute Review: Quickly review key concepts and exam objectives. Familiarize yourself with the functions of various Azure AI services and their corresponding endpoints, REST API’s, SDK’s and pricing of the services before the exam.

Exam Checkin: Checkin 30 mins before your exam starts in order to avoid any last minute technical difficulties. The exam is 2 hours long, including a 20-minute survey time. So, you will have around 1 hour and 40 minutes to tackle approximately 43–47 questions. To pass the exam you need to score 700 marks.

Pace Yourself: Allocate time for each question based on its complexity and importance.

Read Questions Carefully: Ensure you understand the question before selecting an answer.

Conclusion

Preparing for the AI-102 exam is an exciting journey that can significantly boost your AI knowledge and career prospects. By following these prerequisites and recommended preparation steps, you can build a strong foundation and confidently approach the AI-102 exam to demonstrate your proficiency in designing and implementing Azure AI solutions.
