“Travel makes one modest, you see what a tiny place you occupy in the world” — Gustave Flaubert

In today’s day and age, travel has become all the more easy and accessible, thanks to the advancement of technology and social media and their presence in our day-to-day lives. Planning a trip or taking a vacation isn’t such a headache anymore. If we need to go anywhere, all it takes is a call to our friends or a few clicks on the net to decide the destination. Even booking tickets, and planning an itinerary just needs an hour or two on the internet. We all know that travel is good for people of all ages, but it is essential for teens and students. Read on to find out why:

1. No regrets: Ask anybody and they’ll tell you that one of the things they regret the most was not travelling when the opportunity presented itself (especially during college). It’s at college where most, if not all students take their first road-trip with friends, because that’s when they’re finally out of the comfort of home. Everybody remembers their first road-trip with friends even years later, and it’s obviously better to take the leap than back-out and regret it later.

2. It’s an education in itself: The best thing about travel is that it enables you to see and hear for real, everything you had previously just heard or read about. Like a historic monument, or a heritage site, or even a lake — seeing and experiencing it for real is vastly different from just reading about it. Look at it this way — an actual boat ride across a famous lake is much more memorable than just reading from a textbook! When you’re in a new place, you automatically learn to become independent, patient, and self-sufficient.

3. It gives you perspective: With travel, students get much-needed exposure into new regions and places that bring with them their own set of customs, traditions, rituals, and practices. Even the people of various countries have different lifestyles, and it can be very enriching for students to learn about them and take away the positives from it. Such exposure broadens your mind and gives you a more cultural awareness.

4. It’s so much fun: When you travel, you get to see and explore different kinds of foods, customs, rituals and celebrations that are specific to the place you are visiting. This is great; because you wouldn’t get to do any such stuff from the comfort of your house. Getting to meet new people and learn about different ways of life is always fun. If you’re with a group of friends, I assure you that you’ll have memories that will last a lifetime.

5. It gets you out of your comfort zone: If there’s one thing that travel teaches us, it’s that we will never be able to play it safe all our life. Travelling to new places forces us to confront our fears and face different challenges that in turn make us stronger and self-confident in the long run. Staying in a bubble (read your town/city) for a long time will only make us more naive and unprepared for the outside world.
