பசுமை வெங்கடாசலம் அய்யா அவர்களின் “உழவை வெல்வது எப்படி?” சிறப்பு தொடர் நமது சுதந்திர தினமான இன்று ஆரம்பம். இது தாளாண்மை இதழில் வெளியான தொடரின் மறு பதிவு. முன்னதாக, அவரின் நினைவஞ்சலி.
Pasumai Venkatachalam Ayya’s “How to Win the Plough?” special series begins today on our Independence Day. This is a reprint of a series published in Thalanmai magazine. First, a memorial below.
பசுமை வெங்கடாசலம்: நினைவஞ்சலி
பசுமை வெங்கடாசலம், அம்மாப்பேட்டை வெங்கடாசலம் என அறியப்பட்ட இயற்கை விவசாயத்தின் நடமாடும் விக்கிபீடியாவாக விளங்கிய பேராளுமை இன்று (ஜூலை 30, 2020) காலமானார். சில நாட்களாக என்னவென்றே சொல்லமுடியாத உடல் உபாதைகளில் தவித்தவர், “மாத்திரைகளை (ஆங்கிலம் அல்ல) நிறுத்திய பின் நன்றாக தேறி வருகிறேன் என்று பழைய குரலில் என்னிடம் 2 வாரங்களுக்கு முன் கூறினார். பெரும் நம்பிக்கையுடன் இருந்தேன்.
இயற்கை விவசாயத்திற்கும், நம் விவசாயிகளுக்கும், ஆர்வலர்களுக்கும் ஒரு பெரிய துணை மற்றும் ஆசான் இன்று நம்மை விட்டு பிரிந்தார்.
ஒரு முறை நம்மாழ்வார் ஐய்யா: “ நான் பறைசாற்றும் அத்துணை விஷயங்களும் உள்ளடக்கிய பண்ணை நம் அம்மாப்பேட்டை வெங்கடாசலாத்தின் பண்ணை தான்..” என்றார்!
இவரது வழிமுறைகள், பேசும் விதம் எல்லாம் சற்றே வித்தியாசமானவை. மிகவும் கடினமான ஆசான்! ஆனால் நமக்கு வேண்டியதெல்லாம் நிகழும் படி பார்த்துகொள்வார்
ஒரு முறை மாவட்ட ஆட்சியர் இவரைப்பற்றி கேள்வி பட்டு இவரை அழைத்து வரும்படி தனது அலுவலகத்திலிருந்து அனுப்ப, இவர் “ நாங்கள் எப்படி கடிதம் குடுத்து, பல மணி நின்று பிறகே அவரை சந்த்திக்க முடியுமோ, அதே போல அவரை எனக்கு கடிதம் எழுதி, நான் கொடுக்கும் நேரத்திற்கு இங்கு பண்ணைகு வந்து பேசச்சொல்..”என்றார்.
அவரது வழிமுறைகள் சில முறை வித்தியாசமாக இருக்கும், ஆயினும் அவரது ஆளுமை எல்லாவற்றையும் மறைத்து விடும்.
தாளாண்மை இதழில் மிகச்சிறப்பான “உழவை வெல்வது எப்படி” தொடர் ஒன்றை எழுதி அழகு சேர்த்தார்.

Pasumai Venkatachalam: A Memorial
It is with a very heavy heart I share the sad news that Pasumai venkatachalam aiyya passed away today (July 30, 2020). He was suffering for some time now with high BP and symptoms that had no defined disease name.
He was a great expert and guide for natural farming and was the mentor for many farm(er)s. I personally know of many farms that he transformed with great diversity and crop density and ensured every farm he worked with was ecologically and economically viable.
His experiences were shared in a very popular series he penned himself in Thalanmai. (www.kaani.org). A 100 acre farm in tanjore that he transformed in a matter of 2 years. The farm’s owner used to meticulously note all expenses and record P&L every year. They had loss for all the previous 25 years and this genius transformed it in 2 years. The bio diversity he brought in the farm is unmatched and amazing!
It is such a great loss and so many of us — organic enthusiasts, activists, farmers! He will be sorely missed, so much more that we all expected him to accomplish, so many farms will miss him sorely too..His style was a great mix of Nammalvar, Dhabolkar and Fukuoka!
A very famous story of his: once a local dist collector on hearing about him, sent a colleague asking Venkatachalam aiyya to come (to talk to him). V told the person very famously,”If we need anything from the collector, we have to come there, wait out, give a letter and then only get an audience. Tell him to do the same. write to me, get a time and come here to the farm to talk to the ‘farmer’. We can differ on the approach but that was Pasumai Venkatachalam. Lots of self esteem.
Nammalvar aiyya once said : “if there is one farm that has all the features of what I profess, it is Venkatachalam’s.”
