The Nairobi Coffee Festival celebrates all things coffee since the discovery of the suitably of the dark berry for beverage making. As the event, takes place for the second time since its inaugural, the Nairobi Coffee Festival is one of the recommended events to go out for as a family. The baristas are set up against each other in various sets of completions including the Aeropress championship. The winner of the Aeropress competition at Nairobi Coffee Festival will represent Kenya in the global Aeropress championship at Sydney, Australia.

At the event, you could try your hand out in the coffee workshop. If you wanted to get your hands full in the activity, then you could try a hand in pottery at ksh. 100 which took place at the Nairobi Art Centre’s stand. If taking a seat back is more of your thing, then you could entertain your eyes by watching the Baristas outdo each other’s cup of coffee at Aeropress competition.

I also had the privilege of witnessing how Eritreans make their coffee. Coffee is a hearty affair in the Eritrean culture where coffee beans are roasted and ground at the homestead.

The event is not only limited to coffee as various food vendors such as Taste of Italy were present. So you could have your cup of coffee and fest on a snack too. On the ground were jewellery vendors selling affordable art pieces that you buy for keeps. There was the display of art pieces and music performances by talented local artists.

SafeBoda, a relatively new ride app in Nairobi was on the ground to ensure event attendees get safely to and fro the arboretum.

Baristapro one of the establishments that teaches the art of barista was also represented by its fraternity who facilitated the competitions. 10% of the ticket proceeds will go to Permaculture Research Institute Kenya which is an NGO that facilitates education on permaculture. As an Agriculture student, I know permaculture is changing how farmers cultivate crops in a world where land is a scarce resource.

The Nairobi Coffee Festival event was organised and relaxing. A place where coffee lovers could gather and talk over coffee on their love for the addictive drink. It is one event that I would love to attend yet again. Maybe they should hold it twice a year as I can’t get enough of coffee, don’t you think?
