My Grandmum’s #RebirthStory for Kshamata’s Survivors
My granddad, an Airforce officer, passed away when my mum was barely 13 and my Grandmum, 40. My grandmum (Nana, as I call her) despite never being the earning member before, single-handedly took care of her 2 teen kids as a single-parent (in a social setting where India was a lot more conservative towards women than today).
But she fought through all that and came out shining. Because she believed in herself.
When I told her Kshamata NGO was seeking #RebirthStories from across the world to inspire the women it’s empowering (survivors of exploitation/trafficking), she had me share her story right away.
Dear Kshamata Survivors,
Here’s my Nana’s story for you.
And then…
I took the video to Kshamata in person to show survivors her message to them.
I expected them to like it, but the inspiration and positivity they were left with was not something either I, or my Grandmum could imagine. I’m not sure who’s left happiest: them, my Grandmum or me.
Kshamata empowers survivors of exploitation to reintegrate into society as dignified, positive and productive participants.
Want to help too? If you’ve been through something drastic and have managed to get back to a happy life, share your #RebirthStory with Kshamata women and join their ‘In Me, I Believe’ model. While they help survivors believe in themselves, we can help survivors believe in a better tomorrow.
