We created a Tech Community
Communities are a great way of keeping up to date with the latest news while also building your personal brand. Their events offer you the chance to meet new people and collaborate. They are not just free coffee providers! Every meeting is a great opportunity to hone your skills (whether you attend as a guest or as a speaker).
Keeping all these in mind, we decided it was about time to take our chances and create our own tech community in Mérida, México.
The Dojo starts now!
The word “道場”, read as Dojo, is used in Japan to call a place designated to the teaching and practice of modern martial arts and sometimes, meditation. That’s why we decided this would be the perfect match for our new community. Tech Dojo, a place to learn new abilities and practice some old ones.
Our main goal is sharing knowledge, that’s why our door is open to everyone. So far, we’ve had more than 35 talks, with topics that go from programming languages to 3D modeling, music in videogames, and more.
In each meeting, we offer an open-minded and creative space where you are welcome to exchange ideas, ask, connect and of course, enjoy some free snacks and beer.
The last event Tech Dojo hosted was a Design Thinking workshop where over 50 attendants were mixed in 6 teams to learn and practice this innovative methodology. You can read our full note here!
Don’t be afraid
Joining a community might seem challenging but you will surely get a lot out of the experience. So, next time you hear about a meeting near your area, make sure to participate! If someone doesn’t comprehend a concept, explain it to them, or if you are not understanding parts of the conversation, simply ask. The majority of people at these events is more open to dialogue than what you would expect.
And you never know, maybe you will be the one giving a talk in the near future.
