The Chiayi County government said it would promote local agricultural products through blockchain technology, not only to issue tokens but also to trace the source through the blockchain, claiming that this is a “coin-chain combination.”
According to the news released by the Chiayi County Government on May 3, it was pointed out that in the activities organized by the “Chiayi County Government” and the “China Science and Technology Finance Society”, it was hoped that “using blockchain and Internet of Things related technologies” would assist Chiayi County agricultural products and aquatic products, implementation of origin traceability, certification and anti-counterfeiting; in addition, will also issue “Chiayi coins” through the blockchain, launched in July.
It is worth noting that the China Science and Technology Finance Society has also assisted the Kaohsiung City Government in issuing the “Kaohsiung Coin”. However, unlike the Kaohsiung City Government’s propaganda, Kaohsiung has not used blockchain technology.
The press release also pointed out that the Chiayi coin was promoted by the legislator Tsai Yi-Yu, indicating that consumers can get Chiayi coin feedback every time they buy a product, and stimulate consumption again. Chiayi currency is limited to use in Chiayi County.
This concept is similar to Kaohsiung coin’s point feedback mechanism, but this time Chiayi coins are used to issue tokens in the blockchain, and they say that they want to “put agricultural products information on the blockchain”. Tsai Yi-Yu said that “the nodes will be created in the process of agricultural production. On the chain, the information will not be tampered with, claiming to ensure that consumers buy the products of the real origin.
Tsai Yi-Yu released a video on his Youtube channel, indicating that the agricultural product supply chain information will be assisted by the “third-party certification body involved by local governments” to assist in the agricultural product information. The press release pointed out that the program will also launch an APP, consumers can buy in-situ products directly through the APP, get Chiayi coin feedback.
Chiayi County Governor Weng Chang-Liang also mentioned that it is necessary to combine the Internet of Things (IoT) sensors in the blockchain platform, rather than through intermediaries, to really increase farmers’ income. Tsai Yi-yu explained in the released film that IoT sensors will upload agricultural product data to the district in the blockchain.
The news pointed out that the initial cooperation with Alishan’s tea farmers and Dongshi Oyster farmer will gradually promote the scale.
