As a logistics officer for the U.S. Army, Cole Bershinsky is always looking to expand his knowledge and understanding of supply chain management and logistics. KU’s master’s in supply chain management (MS-SCM) program, offered at the Leavenworth campus, proved the right mix of quality education and convenience.

“I do not have a business background, so all of the offered classes were a learning experience for me,” Bershinsky said. “In particular, Business Economics served as a wonderful learning experience. Every assignment provided detailed insight into the subject and maintained my intrigue in a way that impressed me with the knowledge I gained.”

Bershinsky also appreciated the program capstone, taught by adjunct instructor and industry professional Jim Ritchie, who helped get him thinking about his life and career after the military and introduced Bershinsky to real-world applications of his degree. Additionally, the spring 2021 graduate credits program director Steve Leonard and KU Leavenworth program assistant Beth Tucker for making the process of participating in the program using the GI Bill for financing as easy as possible.

“From the administration to the professors, attending KU has been a wonderful experience for me,” he said, adding that instructors’ willingness to work and virtually meet with students made the program conducive to student learning and growth.

Bershinsky plans to continue his career in the U.S. Army for the foreseeable future, which will require his continued professional and educational development and working with civilian organizations.

“While still serving in the U.S. Army, I intend to utilize the knowledge gained from this program to approach military logistics in a more holistic manner,” he said. “Following my military career, I fully intend to work in the supply chain management industry. My MS-SCM degree and the knowledge gained from this program combined with my military experience will greatly assist me in that endeavor.”
