Accounting professor receives KPMG Academic Research Panel grant

A study co-authored by a KU accounting professor has received recognition from an academic grant funding program at accounting firm KPMG.

Rajendra P. Srivastava

Rajendra P. Srivastava, EY professor of accounting and information systems at the KU School of Business, and Theodore Mock, Distinguished Professor of Audit and Assurance at the University of California, Riverside, received a KPMG Academic Research Panel grant in the amount of $35,800 for their proposal titled “Applying Evidential Reasoning Theories in Auditing.”

The study builds on more than 30 years of research in evidential reasoning and audit decisions under uncertainty by Srivastava and more than 20 years of research on audit judgement research with Mock.

“I am excited and honored to receive this KPMG grant because it will provide me with the opportunity to integrate my research of over 30 years into audit and assurance practice,” Srivastava said.

Six experienced academic researchers participate as advisors on the KPMG Academic Research Panel. These researchers work with senior KPMG partners and an academic fellow on rotation with the firm to identify a list of audit-related topics of importance to KMPG and the academic audit research community, as well as a list of academic researchers in the areas of high-priority topics. The request for proposal process is by invitation only and is limited to the select group of researchers.

Srivastava and Mock will present the results of their research later this year at the KPMG Global Services Center in Montvale, New Jersey.
