Accounting professor’s work recognized by American Accounting Association
The Accounting Information Systems (AIS) Section of the American Accounting Association honored Rajendra Srivastava, EY Professor of Accounting and Information Systems, with the 2017 Notable Contributions to the Literature Award at the AAA Annual Meeting in San Diego, California, earlier this month.

Srivastava received the award for his work, “Belief-Function Models in Assessing Overall Information Quality & Information Systems Security Risk Assessment,” and several dozen other articles on the subject.
“I am very pleased and honored to receive this award,” Srivastava said. “This kind of recognition energizes you to do more such work.”
Srivastava introduced the application of the Dempster-Shafer Theory of Belief Functions to information systems and audit decisions, specifically for assessing risks and aggregating uncertainties in the evidence. He has done research in this area for more than 30 years and has co-authored several articles with Glenn Shafer, a former professor at KU who helped develop the Dempster-Shafer theory.
Earlier this year, Srivastava received a KPMG Academic Research Panel grant for a study he co-authored titled “Applying Evidential Reasoning Theories in Auditing.”
