Several KU School of Business students earned university recognition for their academic achievements and campus involvement over the 2023–24 academic year.

Current Master of Accounting students Blake Bruno and Ava Lemon and current MBA students Nicholas Niemann and Benjamin Shaw were among 22 students selected to receive the KU Madison and Lila Self Memorial Scholarship for the 2024–25 academic year. The scholarship is a merit-based scholarship awarded to noteworthy KU seniors transitioning into their first year of a master’s or doctoral program at KU. Each recipient receives a $10,000 scholarship award, a $1,000 professional development award, and leadership and career development training, and they join an interdisciplinary cohort of graduate students.

Business undergraduates Jasneet Kaur and Daniel Mirakian, both from Olathe, Kansas, were announced as members of the 43rd class of University Scholars in February. The program recognizes and encourages sophomores who demonstrate intellectual achievement and curiosity. Scholars receive a scholarship, are assigned a faculty mentor and participate in an interdisciplinary seminar course.

Accounting student Matvey Tabakh was selected as a 2024 Global Scholar in December 2023. Global Scholars are competitively selected based on their interest in integrating internationalism into their undergraduate experience and on their potential for high academic achievement and leadership.

Audrey McBride, a May 2024 bachelor’s degree graduate from Kansas City, Missouri, was one of 11 KU students who received a 2024 Tradition of Excellence Award. The award is cohosted by KU Endowment, the KU Alumni Association and the Student Alumni Endowment Board and recognizes students’ leadership and their efforts to enhance the KU community.

Libby Frost, a May 2024 bachelor’s degree graduate from WaKeeney, Kansas, received KU’s Caryl K. Smith Student Leader Award. Each year, the award honors a graduating sorority or fraternity member who has demonstrated commitment to the local chapter, the KU sorority and fraternity community, the university and the Lawrence community.

Thanh Tan Nguyen, a May 2024 bachelor’s degree graduate from Vietnam, received KU’s Agnes Wright Strickland Award. The award is given each year in recognition of graduating seniors’ academic records, demonstrated leadership at the university, respect among fellow students and indication of future dedication to service at KU.

Frost and Nguyen also received the 2023 Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership (ExCEL) Awards and were recognized during the KU-Oklahoma football game in Oct. 28, 2023, as part of KU’s 111th Homecoming celebration. Students nominated for the award demonstrate leadership, communication skills, involvement at KU and in the Lawrence community, academic scholarship and the ability to work with a variety of students and organizations.
