The Kubeflow community is delighted to announce that we’ll mentor two Google Summer of Code (GSoC) students this year.

GSoC is a global program, run by Google, which brings students and open source organizations together for a few months each year. The students learn about open source, coding, and communities. The open source projects gain new features, ideas, and community members.

Welcome to our two students, Kostas Andriopoulos and Yash Jakhotiya! These are the Kubeflow projects for GSoC 2020:

Project: Build a UI to deploy and manage TensorBoard instances with support for PVCs

Student: Kostas Andriopoulos.

Mentors: Ilias Katsakioris, Kimonas Sotirchos.

Kostas will create a new web app for managing TensorBoard custom resource instances, with support for PVCs, in a Kubernetes cluster. As part of this project, Kostas will extend Kubeflow’s artifacts to achieve the user experience described.

Project: Create a sample Jupyter notebook for sentiment analysis using TensorFlow 2 and Kubeflow

Student: Yash Jakhotiya.

Mentors: Yuan Tang, Ce Gao, Chan Yi Lin.

Yash will build a sample that deploys a sentiment analysis model from a Jupyter notebook to Kubeflow. The model will be built with TensorFlow 2. As part of this process, Yash will illustrate the customer user journey.

Thank you to all the students who submitted proposals for Kubeflow’s participation in GSoC 2020, and to all the community members who’ve contributed advice so far!

What’s next?

The GSoC community bonding period runs until the end of May. During this time, the students will get to know the Kubeflow community and work out the finer details of their projects with their mentors. Coding starts in June and runs until August. More details are on the GSoC website.

We’re excited to see what the students will contribute to Kubeflow!
