To ring in the new year, we are excited to celebrate our biggest community contribution yet! This release of KubOS brings you the communication service framework, which makes it much easier to integrate a new radio into KubOS. The KubOS team has worked with our community developers to test, integrate, and document the framework so the rest of the community can benefit from the new functionality!

Communication Service Framework

The communication service framework fills a dire need within KubOS: its tether to the ground. You can check out our documentation for the framework to see exactly how it functions, but basically it abstracts onboard and hardware communication handling for you. When you’re integrating a radio, you can do so with confidence knowing that if you follow the framework, you’ll be immediately compatible with all the KubOS Services. Also, our team here at KubOS has provided extensive documentation on the framework, an even more extensive tutorial for how to use it, and tested it in house so we can be confident letting our community use it.

As always, check out our full documentation and changelog for all the changes and other parts of KubOS. We are happy to celebrate our community developers Sam Justice and William Greer for their work on the communication service framework! If you would like to get involved in the KubOS community, or just ask us questions on how to use it, come talk to us on Slack and see new what we’re working on next on the Community Trello board.
